House Resolution 24

"In memory of Edward C. Pastilong, former member of the West
Virginia House of Delegates from the County of Marshall."
Whereas, Edward C. Pastilong of Moundsville was born March 13,
1919, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John &
Sophia Pastilong, and died on Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at the age
of seventy-eight; and
Whereas, He was married to Martina Ovies on April 18, 1942, who
preceded him in death in 1989. Mr. Pastilong and his wife had two
sons: Edward M. Pastilong of Morgantown and Daniel Pastilong of New
Martinsville; and
Whereas, He received his education in the parochial and public
schools of the State, at Bethany College and the Elliot School of
Business in Wheeling; and
Whereas, Mr. Pastilong was elected to the House of Delegates in
1954 and served to 1956, was again elected in 1960, and also served
as a member of the Silver Haired Legislature; and
Whereas, A recipient of the Purple Heart, he was a United
States Army veteran of WWII. Edward was a member of the Earl
Francis Post #3, American Legion, Moundsville and the Knights of Columbus Council #1907, Moundsville; and
Whereas, Edward retired in the early 1970's as Postmaster from
the Moundsville Post Office. Mr. Pastilong was the former owner of
Valley Homes, Inc. On Lafayette Avenue in Moundsville until the
early 1960's; and
Whereas, In the early 1950's he helped establish the
Moundsville Little League Baseball; and
Whereas, Mr. Pastilong was a member of the Catholic faith, and
held membership in the Eagles and Kiwanians. He was a member of the
National Congress of Parents and Teachers, American Legion, VFW,
Disabled American Veterans, United Steel Workers of America (CIO),
West Virginia Sheriffs Association, FOP, and Director of the
Salvation Army Boys Club. He was fund chairman of the Red Cross and
an honorary citizen of Boys Town. He was a purple heart veteran of
Asiactic-Pacific Theatre in World War II; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That it is with heartfelt sorrow that this House of Delegates
notes the passing of Edward C. Pastilong, former member, colleague
and friend, and extends to his children, Edward and Daniel, our
collective expressions of condolence; and, be it
Further resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
prepare certified copies of this resolution for his surviving sons.
